Who are The Keepers of the Golden Compass?

We, The Keepers of the Golden Compass, or "The Keepers", are a close family with a passion for exploring the world around us. Whenever our bank account allows it, we head off on an adventure. Sometimes that takes us across the globe, or to remote islands, stunning lakes, or to places one would think only existed in movies. And our name? It's just a fun name we came up with for this project of ours. But it does have some meaning. In our family, the compass symbolizes including a guide for helping us find our way through this life. Together. And the "golden" part of our name symbolizes our quest to find the hidden gems of the world.

Also, one of our members is an author and a maker of games. We decided to combine all of these passions into this one website.

Goal of The Keepers

Fun! That word alone summarizes what we are about.

Our goal is to motivate others to get out and explore the world themselves! The world is full of wonders to enjoy, and seeing them through a phone or computer screen is nothing compared to experiencing these places in real life (IRL for the young crowd) - seeing with your own eyes, listening with your own ears, smelling the air, or feeling the terrain below your feet. An experience your smartphone can't fully give you.

We also hope to share some fun books and games with the world. Our favorite is the Tooth Fairies of Fairy Kingdom book for the little ones losing their teeth, or within a year or two of that time of their life. It's a fun book for them, especially since most figure out which fairy is their favorite or which one they want to have as their fairy who picks up their teeth at night!

What we do

Occasionally, when our bank account allows it, we will hide a small treasure and post clues from our social media accounts. So make sure to give us a follow!

We also make some school visits to classrooms to discuss our books as well as show off our first game, which is perfect for those learning positive and negative numbers. So for educators in Utah (for now), reach out if you'd like a visit!

Where will the treasures be hidden?

Where we call home is one of the greatest playgrounds for outdoor enthusiasts - Utah. We know the state has a reputation surrounding the faith-based community located here, but don't believe everything you hear. The people here are friendly, and beyond that, the state is absolutely AMAZING! There are more Dark Sky Parks here than anywhere else in the world. There are 5 National Parks and over 40 State Parks. Places exist in Utah that you wouldn't believe unless you see them with your own eyes. Places for hiking, mountain biking, camping, fishing, water sports, etc. are abundant. And there's so much more! For instance, far to the southwest visitors come from all over the world to hike The Narrows in Zion's National Park, or catch a musical at the stunning outdoor Tuacahn Amphitheater. Or catch breathtaking views of the "Caribbean of the Rockies", aka Bear Lake, at the north end of the state. And for lovers of winter sports, millions visit each year as Utah is home to some of the best skiing on earth.

Because the state has so much to offer, both in history and in the outdoors, our treasure hunts will begin here in Utah. We hope to one day expand, but only time will tell!

Code of the Compass

As Keepers, we try and follow a certain code. A code of conduct we call the "Code of the Compass". We hope you will join us in following this code as a fellow explorer and treasure hunter:

• Respect private property. Never trespass on private land.

• Never venture into places that have posted signs telling you to stay away, including:

  • Dangerous places

  • Areas that are currently attempting to grow something

  • Erosion areas

  • Private/government property

• Respect other hunters, non-hunters, and locals alike by:

  • Greeting people you meet with a smile and a warm "hello"

  • Help others when they're in need and you have the ability to help, whether a great or small act

  • Accept and respect differences of beliefs and opinions, no matter how much they differ from your own

  • Never attempt to "cheat" or be dishonest with others during our hunts (and outside of our hunts as well!)

  • Support local small businesses in the areas you visit

• Respect the areas you visit:

• Clean up after yourself and leave the area better than you found it

• If you find garbage left behind by others, pick it up and dispose of it properly

• Share your adventures of the area with the world (and please tag us! #HiddenTreasureHunters

• Have FUN!

And specifically for our hunters, if you find a treasure, PLEASE, as part of the code:

• Take a picture of you at the treasure location with the treasure in hand

• Post it on social media

• Tag us (#HiddenTreasureHunters)

• Email us

That way we can let our other hunters know the treasure has been found!
